Client Access Licenses

BlackBerry Enterprise Service Client Access Licenses (CALs) are a seat or license that gives your device (iOS, Android, Windows or BlackBerry) right to access the services offered from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The server client access license is based on a per seat licensing (also called per user or per device) or per server licensing.

BlackBerry CALs can be purchased in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 server client access license key denominations as well as custom allotments (Call for details).

Client Access License keys can be added from earlier versions of your BES to your current version of your BES without upgrading them.  They are upwardly compatible from version 3.5 to the current version.

Until the end of 2014 Client Access License keys can be upgraded at no cost from the older BES v5.0.4 to the new BES 10 platform for BlackBerry 10 and PlayBooks. You can do that here:

With respect to installing the Client Access License Keys (CALs) for the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, please log into your web administration service.

A) Expand the BlackBerry Solution Topology in the Servers and components section.
B) Expand Component view.
C) Expand the BlackBerry Administration Service (BAS).
D) Click on the entry for the server name (SERVER2008R2 in this screenshot).
